Political Unrest Should Make an Interesting Austin City Limits
Given this time of great political unrest, it’s interesting that that the biggest act playing the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year is Paul McCartney someone who made music in the center of the political turmoil of the politically turbulent 1960s.
In the 1960s, the hippies of the summer of love gave us protests against the Vietnam War. Back then the music both fueled and documented the enormous and rapid changes to society.
Sadly, that isn’t happening much anymore.
Just after the 2016 election, many people were looking forward to the silver lining of some really great punk music coming out of the unrest and heartbreak of current politics. That hasn’t happened yet, though some artists have been very vocal!
It should be an interesting ACL this year, given our divisive political era. Some of the artists on the lineup may have much to say about the state of the world. Brandi Carlyle is a very out lesbian who talks politics during her set and David Byrne is all over the place so who knows what he’ll say.
The festival takes place October. 5-7, and 12-14. Paul McCartney is headlining both weekends.
