My Hurricane Harvey
I was very fortunate that as Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast, my 80 year-old parents who stubbornly refused to leave their home on the coast were just fine. Their house (only 7 miles from the Gulf) stayed dry and never lost power. I was a wreck with worry, reading Space Center Weather three times a day. At one point I considered sleeping on the dog bed, so I’d know quicker if the house was going to flood!
This is what the storm looked like:
My fancy rain boots
I parked the truck on the lawn during one point. Nearly a million cars were destroyed during Harvey, so this isn’t as silly as it looks!
It was windy out on the nature preserve near the house
And tho we were fine, Houston was a long way from normal
It’s going to take years for Houston to rebuild–and my own extended family– to get back to normal. Two of my cousin’s were totally flooded, with feet of water in each of their houses.
Houston is looking at a long road back. I just got lucky with keeping my 80 year-old parents dry, even with the 50+ inches of rain we think they got during the storm!
